A handmade kilt is entirely hand-sewn by a skilled kiltmaker, taking 20-30 hours to construct. Made from 8 yards of high-quality wool, it Molds to the wearer’s body over time for a superior fit. The pleats are individually shaped, stitched, and pressed by hand, ensuring durability that lasts a lifetime, as well as a slightly raised pleat. This type of kilt can be completely re-made to fit a new waist measurement of up to 8” difference either way. All of the stitches can be unpicked back to the 8 yards of material and then remade to the new size.
Handmade kilts offer three pleating styles: Pleated to Sett, where the tartan pattern continues seamlessly across the pleats; Pleated to Stripe, where a single dominant stripe is aligned throughout the pleats; and Box Pleats, which create a structured, military-style look. Due to its craftsmanship and customization options, a handmade kilt is more expensive but provides unparalleled quality and longevity.
